What is Atheletes Foot?

Atheletes foot is a fungal infection. This is a common skin infection. Fungal germs are present in human skin normally but if conditions are favourable, it can penetrate deeper into the skin cells, multiply quickly and produce infection. Fungi usually grows in damp, warm and wet weather. Generally, it is seen on the toes. This is a common problem in people who sweat a lot. It is a contagious infection and can be easily transmitted from one person to another. For example, it is common in swimmers who share common showers for bathing. A small patch of infection can quickly spread along the whole part. Infection starts from the skin between the little toes. There is a rash that causes itching and burbing. It slowly becomes scaly. The skin becomes cracked and sore. Sometimes, large fissues may develop between the toes that can cause pain.

Signs of athletes foot

  • The first and the foremost sign is the apperance of redness and itching between the toes. The skin becomes itchy and scaly.
  • Itching is the most important symptom. Due to itching, the skin cracks down between the toes and becomes very painful.
  • Sometimes, bleeding may occur due to excessive cracks in the skin
  • It is sore to touch and patient may also have difficulty in walking

How to get rid of atheletes foot?

People who do not take care of their skin are more prone to get fungal infection especially during rainy season and in winters. One should take some precautions to prevent athletes foot. Some useful tips are given here that may help you to get rid of atheletes foot:

  • Wash your feet daily with lukewarm water and dry the skin completely between the toes by using a soft towel. Do no wear the socks when your feet are not dried completely. The soggy skin is an ideal condition for fungus to grow quickly.
  • Do not share the towels with anybody in the community showers. Always use your indiviudal towel. Wash your towel regularly.
  • Change yoru socks eveyday. Unwashed socks can produce fungal infection quickly as germs can grow rapidly in unhealthy state of your feet.
  • Try wearing cotton socks. Avoid nylon socks as sweat does not soak up completely by the nylon socks and sweating may increase.
  • Wear different pair of shoes after every two days. Let your shoes also dry completely.
  • When you are at home, try to leave your feet open without socks and shoes. Let the air get into your feet. Try to keep your feet in sunlight during winters.
  • When in communal changing rooms, wear flip flops. This will prevent your feet coming in contact with the surface, which may conain germs.
  • Take lukewarm water in a tub and put some salt into it. Soak your feet for half an hour in the water. Dry them using a clean towel and apply coconut oil. This is an excellent home remedy to get rid of atheletes foot naturally.
