Introduction

Cervical spondylitis is a disease in which there is inflammation of the cervical vertebrae. The main symptom of this problem is pain and stiffness in the neck region. Pain may extend downwards to the back and to the arm. Other cervical spondylosis symptoms include numbness of the fingers, vertigo, and difficulty in walking and standing for a very long time. This problem is the result of certain degenerative changes in the cervical vertebrae. It occurs mainly due to incorrect posture while sleeping or sitting. Cervical spondylitis may occur at any age. Mostly, young generation is affected with this problem. Due to long working hours and mainly working on computers for a longer period of time is the cause of this problem. One should take alternative therapies such as home remedies to prevent cervical spondylosis symptoms.

Home Remedies for Cervical Neck Pain

Home remedies are very useful for the treatment of cervical neck pain and backache. Home remedies are safe and may be taken regularly to get rid of cervical neck pain and backache. Some useful home remedies for cervical neck pain are discussed below:

Sesame oil:

Massage the neck area gently by using sesame oil. It helps to enhance the circulation of blood to the affected area of the neck. You can also apply hot fomentation after doing massage. This will give you instant relief from acute pain and stiffness of the neck.

Garlic:

Garlic is a wonderful natural home remedy for the treatment of neck pain and backache. Garlic is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It helps in reducing inflammation of the neck tissues and gives quick relief.
One should eat one or two cloves of garlic early in the morning to get relief from neck pain and backache.

Ginger:

Ginger is also a wonderful home remedy for the treatment of cervical spondylosis. Grind equal amounts of ginger root, cumin seeds and celery seeds. Take half a teaspoon of this powdered mixture everyday with a glass of hot water at bedtime. It is a natural home remedy for back pain and gives quick relief.

Lavender oil:

Cayenne pepper:

Cayenne pepper is useful for the treatment of neck pain and backache. This remedy may be added to the foods to get relief from pain. Take a glass of hot milk and add one or two teaspoons of cayenne pepper and drink it at least two times in a day.
You can also consume one or two teaspoon of cayenne pepper with a glass of hot water every day before eating breakfast to get rid of neck pain and backache.

Hot and cold compresses:

Apply alternate hot and cold compresses on the affected area. This helps to improve the blood circulation to the area. It also helps to relax the muscles and gives relief from swelling and soreness of the neck muscles.
Wrap a hot water bottle in a towel to make your hot compress and some ice cubes in a towel to make a cold compress.
Keep hot compress on the affected area for 2-3 minutes followed by a cold compress for one minute. Repeat this process 15-20 times. It will provide you immediate relief from neck pain.

Regular exercise:

Regular exercise helps to get rid of stiffness and pain the back and neck muscles. Regular exercise also helps in improving the blood circulation. Regular exercise also helps to strengthen the muscles of the neck and back.

Turmeric:

Turmeric is also a wonderful home remedy for cervical spondylosis. Take a glass of hot milk and add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder in it. Drink it every day in the morning. Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It also boosts up immune system and gives quick relief from pain.
